Jail for two men following an assault in a Dartford nightclub
Two Bexley men have received prison sentences after committing grievous bodily harm on a man in a Dartford nightclub.
On the evening of Saturday 4 May 2013, the 22-year-old victim was at Crush nightclub in Spital Street with friends. Without warning, 23-year-old Kenny Burke (left photograph) and 27-year-old Liam Burke (right photograph), both of Rye Close, Bexley, assaulted him.
Liam Burke repeatedly punched and kicked him whilst Kenny Burke struck his face a with a broken glass bottle. This caused significant facial injuries.
The victim left the nightclub where police officers who were in the vicinity were alerted to his injuries. He required immediate hospital treatment that included 54 stitches.
Liam Burke was found by the police officers nearby with bloodied clothing and a swollen right hand. He was arrested on suspicion of committing the assault.
Kenny Burke was later located and arrested for the same offence.
Liam Burke and Kenny Burke were both charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and pleaded not guilty at court. They were subsequently found guilty by the jury.
At Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday 11 October 2016, Kenny Burke was sentenced to a prison term of nine years and Liam Burke to a term of seven-and-a-half years.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable James Greenidge said:
‘This was a particularly violent attack that caused horrific facial injuries. The court heard how the attack has had a significant effect on the victim.
‘I would like to commend the victim and witnesses for their courage and assistance throughout the length of the trial process.’
